Boatyard

Our boatyard facilities started originally in the old tin shed at the head of the pier, over the years they have developed with the introduction and expansion of our pontoons and swinging moorings. Today the workshops comprise a full service facility with boatbuilding, engineer and rigging shops with a permanent staff of around 18 at anytime. With the arrival of the new Sublift slipway hoist our yard can now handle boats upto 40T displacement. Sublift are regarded as probably the most effective and most up to date hoists available. Their unique design allows the machine to make maximum use of space ashore while lifting the boat using tradtional slings which are kinder to the hull structure than pads.

Our boatbuilding staff undertake all forms of works from small minor cosmetic timber repairs, to large structural GRP repairs for private owners and insurance companies. This winter we have been undertaking several large structural keel pan repairs in GRP vessels alongside our annual programme of brightwork maintenance on resident vessels. Our timber boat experts are also rebuilding a traditionally built scottish canoe sterned fishing boat from the frames up, please see the photos in the gallery for more information. The engineering shop is equipped sufficently to allow our engineers to undertake all aspects of marine engineering, from basic engine servicing to fabrication of bushes and bearings along with fabrication of bespoke stainless steel products or repair of that bent pulpit leg. In addition we have engineers trained in the installation and repair of the major leading marine electronic brands.

The riggers have the benefit of an in-house roll swaging machine complimented with and extensive on-site stock of rigging wire and fittings, enabling rigging wires to be fabricated as required. The chandlery stocks an extensive range of ropes and all splicing can be undertaken on-site creating and halyard or mooring line to suit the individual boats requirements.

The yard provides on-shore winter storage for around 125-130 vessels now up to 40T in displacement. This winter we have invested in an on-site shrink wrapping service and this has proved very successful, protecting the boat from the effects of all weather while allowing sufficent ventilation to prevent growth of mildew under the cover.
