Arriving by car

From the South
If arriving from the South, be aware if you are using a Satellite Navigation system. Sat Nav takes the shortest route, which by two miles will take you instead down the B840 road between Cladich and Ford. Whilst scenic, this 21 mile single track road will add a lot of time to your journey.

If you are coming from the Glasgow / Edinburgh area; leaving Glasgow on the A82 dual carriageway from the city centre (M8), follow this road out of the city, through Dumbarton at onwards to Balloch before following signs for Crainlarach and Campbeltown; heading north up the west side of Loch Lomond. Just over half way up the loch at Tarbet the A82 continues north to Crainlarach at this point we suggest if time is of the essence you follow the A83 and head for Campbeltown, going via Arrochar, Inveraray and Lochgilphead. Once you reach Lochgilphead follow the signs to Oban on the A816. Ardfern is a short way down the leafy B8002 off the main A816, 24 miles south of Oban and 14 miles north of Lochgilphead.

From the North
If you have time to explore some of Scotland by road you can follow the A82 on to Crainlarach before following signs for Oban, travelling west via the shores of Loch Awe. Once in Oban you will follow the main road through the town, following signs for Lochgilphead and Campbeltown on the A816. Ardfern is 24 miles south of Oban a short distance along the B8002.
