The copper nails are hammer through the planking; using the original fastening holes, and timbers. The rove, a dished thick copper washer is hammered onto the nail and the excess nail cut back before the remains are riveted over the rove; effectively riveting the planking to the timber. The operation requires 2 men working as a team, one inside the boat and one outside.
